Department History

Little information is available on the origins of the department,
It is believed that the department was first organized around 1827,
with neighbors helping neighbors - just like it is today.

In recent history, the department moved to a new station in 1998
on Mill Street in Bloomfield.
The new station was built to accomodate the town's new (at the time)
75-foot ladder truck 'Aerial 1.'

Currently, the department has 19 active members, 13 reserve members, and seven junior firefighters.
